Kogi Governor Ushers in N72,500 Minimum Wage, Announces One-Year Tax Relief for Workers
Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has approved a new minimum wage of N72,500 for civil servants, effective immediately. This announcement came as the governor received the report from the Kogi State Minimum Wage Implementation Committee, led by Head of Service Elijah Avenemi.
Ododo emphasized his dedication to improving the welfare of workers, drawing from his own experience as a former labor leader and civil servant. He also granted a one-year tax relief for all state employees, with no Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) taxes or deductions to be made during this period.
“I cannot forget where I came from,” said Ododo. “I am a man from a humble background and now, by the grace of God, I am here to ensure that the resources of the state are used for the benefit of all.”
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) chairman in Kogi, Comrade Gabriel Amari, praised the governor, calling him the most workers-friendly leader the state has had. He assured that workers will continue to support the administration’s efforts to improve the state.
Other states that have agreed to implement the new minimum wage include Adamawa, Benue, Lagos, Rivers, Osun, Oyo, and Edo.
