Investigation Launched Following Assassination of Miyetti Allah Chairman in Kwara State
The Kwara State Police Command has initiated an inquiry into the murder of Alhaji Idris Abubakar, the 32-year-old chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in the state. Abubakar was shot and killed by unknown assailants outside his home in Oke Ose, Ilorin East Local Government Area, around 10 PM on Saturday.
In a statement released on Sunday, police spokesman Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed the incident, noting that detectives recovered five spent 7.62mm bullet casings from the scene. The deceased’s body has been taken to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Abubakar’s murder was confirmed by the police, who indicated that the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has launched a comprehensive investigation. Commissioner of Police Victor Olaiya assured the public that those responsible for the crime would be brought to justice and encouraged community members to remain calm while providing any pertinent information regarding the case.
Muhammed Abdullahi, the Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Inter-Community Relations (Fulani), also acknowledged the tragic killing, stating, “He was killed in front of his residence on Saturday night by gunmen who left him for dead.” Abdullahi indicated that preparations for Abubakar’s funeral were already underway, with police actively pursuing the investigation.
An eyewitness, Aina’u Sarki, recounted being with Abubakar just 20 minutes before the incident, receiving a call shortly after informing him of the shooting.
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association also issued a statement confirming the assassination of their chairman. Secretary Alhaji Abdulazeez Mohammed expressed deep sorrow over the loss, stating, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. With heavy hearts, we announce the tragic passing of our esteemed chairman, Alhaji Idris Abubakar Sakaina, who was killed by unknown gunmen at his Okeose residence at approximately 10 PM.The deceased is survived by two wives and six children.
The funeral prayer (Janaza) for Alhaji Idris Abubakar is scheduled to take place on Sunday at 10:00 AM in Zango, Ilorin, Kwara State. Supporters extended their prayers, asking Allah to grant him mercy and to provide consolation to his family during this difficult time.
