Obasa Returns as Lagos Speaker Amid Leadership Crisis and Resignations
Mudashiru Obasa has returned as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly following the resignation of his successor, Mojisola Meranda.
Obasa’s comeback comes months after his impeachment in February over corruption allegations.
Meranda, who stepped in as Speaker after his removal, announced her resignation, stating that her decision was to protect the integrity of the Assembly.
Before her resignation, lawmakers took turns to commend her leadership, with Desmond Olusola Elliot praising her for demonstrating diligence and good governance during her brief tenure.
In the wake of the leadership shakeup, the Assembly’s Deputy Chief Whip, Okanlawon Sani, also tendered his resignation.
