The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has initiated a three-day operation aimed at removing counterfeit Milo chocolate drinks from markets across Bauchi State.
The Bauchi office of NAFDAC announced that the operation, which targets markets and superstores throughout the state, began on Tuesday and is set to continue for three days. This effort follows a directive from NAFDAC’s headquarters to eliminate the circulation of fake Milo products.
Dr. Paul Kamai, the state director of NAFDAC, confirmed the commencement of the exercise during an interview on Wednesday. He also revealed that the agency plans to meet with the leadership of the Agrochemical Dealers Association within the week to discuss the dangers posed by certain chemicals used in food storage.
“In Bauchi, we will engage Agrochemical dealers to discourage the use of Dictholoruvis and Paraquat chemicals in food storage as we approach the harvest season,” Kamai stated, emphasizing that these harmful chemicals have long been banned.
Additionally, Kamai urged bakers and producers of packaged water to renew their operational licenses within the mandated two-year period. He warned that failure to do so could result in penalties that might disrupt their business activities.
He also encouraged small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to register their products with NAFDAC to facilitate their entry into Nigerian markets.
This initiative underscores NAFDAC’s commitment to ensuring the safety and quality of products available to consumers in Bauchi State and beyond.
