NDDC Warns Public Against Christmas Cash Transfer Scam; Fraudsters Target Holiday Celebrators
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has refuted allegations regarding a supposed Christmas cash transfer of N30,000, aimed at helping individuals celebrate the holiday season. In a statement released on Thursday from Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, the NDDC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, attributed these unfounded claims to fraudsters impersonating the commission in order to deceive the public.
Thompson-Wakama highlighted that scammers have created a fake Facebook account using the name and image of Chiedu Ebie, the Chairman of the NDDC. This fraudulent account claims that “the Niger Delta State Chairman, Mr. Chiedu Ebie, is distributing 30,000 Naira for Christmas celebrations,” and encourages individuals to register for the alleged cash transfer.
The NDDC has urged the public to be cautious and not fall victim to the schemes orchestrated by these dishonest individuals. “We wish to advise the public not to fall prey to scams and schemes initiated by impostors claiming to represent NDDC officials,” the statement emphasized.
The commission has promptly alerted law enforcement agencies to investigate these fraudulent activities and ensure that those responsible face legal action. The NDDC also encourages anyone encountering such scams to report them to the relevant authorities.
Additionally, the commission warned the public to refrain from engaging in transactions with individuals of dubious character, stating that any dealings made under such circumstances are at the individual’s own risk, and the NDDC will not be accountable for any resulting losses.
