NDLEA Nabs 75yr old grandpa & 70yr old grandma with cannabis

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reported a substantial bust of illegal drugs, with its officers confiscating three trailer loads of opioids in Lagos State during the weekend. The unit included 3,450,000 pills and 344,000 bottles of codeine syrup. NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi highlighted that the operation resulted in the arrest of three suspects in Abule Ado, situated in the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area.

The drugs, valued at billions of naira, were discovered in two 40-ft container trucks and another 20-ft truck at the AML bonded terminal, Abule-Osun, near the International Trade Fair complex before being transported to a warehouse at Abule-Ado. Among those arrested were the warehouse agent, Cosmas Obiajulu, along with drivers Ridwan Balogun and Banjo Tayo. Another driver managed to evade capture.

In addition to the Lagos seizure, NDLEA operatives apprehended suspects in other locations. On May 7th, Nwankwo Ejike was arrested in the Coker area of Lagos with 100 liters of codeine syrup, while Clinton Akinye was found with 60 liters of the same substance on the same day. Meanwhile, Adegbola Segun was caught with 37.5kg of cannabis sativa at Mile 12 area of Lagos on May 6th.

Also, Jibril Audu who is 75-year-old grandpa, was arrested on Friday 10th May with 7.5 kilograms of cannabis at Oke-asa village, Ijero-Ekiti, Ekiti state during a raid operation.

In the same light,  a 70-year-old grandma and senior citizen, Tikwase Nytor was apprehended with 15.6kg of cannabis on Thursday 9th May during a raid operation at Achusa and International Market road, Makurdi, Benue state.

Further interceptions occurred in Adamawa State, where a consignment of opioids destined for Cameroon was intercepted along Mubi-Yola road, resulting in the arrest of two suspects. In Edo State, a significant quantity of cannabis was destroyed in a raid on Iguiye forest, and a suspect named Itah Nyong was apprehended.

Chairman/CEO of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), commended the efforts of the Agency’s commands and assured continued collaboration with local and international partners to combat substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in Nigeria.
