Delta North Senator Ned Nwoko Calls for Igbo Unity and Creation of Anioma State at Otu Oka-Iwu Event

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing the Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has made a passionate appeal for unity among the Igbo community to tackle urgent challenges faced by the region. His remarks came during the 2024 Otu Oka-Iwu week event in Abuja, themed “Strengthening Igbo Unity: The Quest for the Creation of a New State in the South-East.”

The event, organized by Otu Oka-Iwu—an association of Igbo lawyers—brought together various political figures, traditional leaders, and cultural representatives to discuss pathways for regional advancement and solidarity.

In a statement released by his media consultant, Mike Ogar-Gabriel, Senator Nwoko emphasized the crucial need for Igbo people to unite in order to fulfill their collective socio-economic and political goals. He asserted that a united front is essential for effectively addressing the developmental issues within the region and ensuring fair representation in Nigeria’s federal system.

Highlighting the argument for establishing an additional state in the South East, Senator Nwoko pointed out that the existing political arrangement does not adequately cater to the distinct needs and interests of the region. He urged for coordinated efforts among various stakeholders to push for the creation of a new state, which he believes would facilitate resource distribution and promote sustainable development.

Senator Ned Nwoko specifically underscored the demand for the establishment of Anioma State, aimed at giving a more accurate representation of the people in Delta North. He argued that the formation of Anioma State would enhance political participation, increase socio-economic opportunities, and provide a stronger platform for constituents to achieve their developmental objectives.

“The establishment of Anioma State transcends mere political interest; it is essential for justice and equity. Anioma warrants a voice that can effectively convey its aspirations, aligning seamlessly with the broader Igbo pursuit for fair representation and sustainable advancement,” he stated.

The senator reiterated his dedication to advocating for regional equity and called on all Igbo stakeholders to come together in support of this initiative, emphasizing that cultural unity and collective advocacy are vital to realizing this vision.

Attendees at the event commended Senator Nwoko’s efforts in fostering Igbo unity and advocating for the creation of Anioma State. They described his impassioned address as a rallying cry for all Igbo individuals to take action.

As the 2024 Otu Oka-Iwu week came to a close, participants left feeling motivated and committed to promoting the principles of equity, development, and unity. Senator Nwoko’s involvement reaffirmed his role as a key advocate for regional progress in Nigeria, as he continues to strive for a more inclusive and prosperous future.
