Collaboration with National Security Adviser Leads to Successful Operation
In a joint effort between the Nigerian Army and the Office of the National Security Adviser, 17 abducted children were rescued from a Tsangaya school in Gidan Baya, Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The children, who were taken two weeks ago, were released unharmed.
The abduction took place on March 9th, targeting a Tsangaya school—a traditional institution for teaching the Qur’an and Islamic knowledge. While the government did not disclose whether a ransom was paid for the children’s release, it emphasized the successful collaboration between security forces.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto praised the military and security agencies for their swift action in rescuing the children. He assured that all rescued children underwent medical examinations and were found to be in good health, ready to reunite with their families.
Additionally, Governor Sokoto announced support measures for the rescued children, including a donation of two bags of grains and N100,000 each. He urged citizens to continue supporting the government’s efforts to secure the state and emphasized the importance of cooperation with security agencies for effective intelligence gathering.
The Garrison Commander 8 Division Nigerian Army Sokoto, General Tawasimi, expressed gratitude for the governor’s support and reaffirmed the military’s commitment to eradicating banditry in Sokoto State.
The successful rescue in Sokoto comes amidst ongoing concerns over security challenges in the country, highlighted by the recent abduction of 287 pupils from primary and secondary schools in Kaduna State. The students remain in captivity as their abductors demand a N1 billion ransom for their release.
