Defence Chief Confirms Killing of Notorious Bandits’ Leader, Kachalla Halilu, A Day After Appearing In A TikTok Video
Zamfara, Nigeria – The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has confirmed the killing of Kachalla Halilu, a notorious bandits‘ leader, and several other bandits in ongoing operations in Zamfara.
The Defence Chief made this announcement during a visit to the Governor of Zamfara, Dauda Lawal, at the Government House, Gusau, on Friday.
According to General Musa, Halilu and his followers were neutralised during an encounter with troops deployed in Mayanci general area in Maru Local Government. The Defence Chief congratulated the people of Zamfara over the successful operation and assured them that more efforts will be made to eliminate banditry in the North-West region.
He praised the troops for their dedication and hard work in the ongoing operations in the state. He also commended Governor Lawal for his support to security agencies in the fight against insecurity. The Defence Chief reiterated the federal government’s commitment to ending banditry in the North-West region and assured that more troops will be deployed to Zamfara to support ongoing operations.
The Defence Chief urged the people of Zamfara to continue providing necessary support to security agencies by providing credible intelligence to help them discharge their duties effectively. However, he cautioned against rendering any kind of support to bandits, as it would jeopardise the successes being recorded by the troops.
In his response, Governor Lawal described the Defence Chief’s visit as timely and fundamental. He expressed gratitude for the ongoing operations by security agencies and pledged to support them to succeed. The Governor noted that Zamfara had become a major epicentre of banditry activities in the North-West region and emphasized the need for collective efforts to tackle the issue.
The Defence Chief later addressed military personnel at the 1 Brigade Command, Gusau, where he commended them for their successes in the ongoing operations. He expressed sadness over the loss of four soldiers who were killed during an encounter with bandits along Gusau-Tsafe road on Thursday.
The Defence Chief called for more efforts to complete the war against banditry and urged soldiers to continue doing their best despite challenges. The visit was marked with a minute of silence for the souls of the deceased army personnel.
