Pastor Adeboye Announces 100-Day Fast for Nigeria’s Peace

Pastor Adeboye Announces 100-Day Fast for Nigeria's Peace

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), expressed optimism regarding Nigeria’s future peace during a recent church event.

He announced plans for a 100-day fasting period set to begin on January 11 and conclude on April 21, 2025, with the theme “RCCG FAST 2025.”

The declaration was made during the inaugural Holy Ghost Night of the new year, which took place early on January 4. In the accompanying video shared on his official Facebook page, Adeboye emphasized that the first 30 days of the fasting period would be specifically dedicated to prayers for Nigeria.

In a noteworthy consideration for the health of older participants, Adeboye urged individuals aged 70 and above to refrain from the fast altogether. He suggested that those between 70 and 80 years could break their fast by 3 PM, while those over 80 should conclude their fast by noon. For individuals over 90, he advised against participation, humorously noting they might be in the “departure lounge of life.”

The pastor further highlighted the significance of prayer during the fasting period, warning that fasting without prayer is akin to merely engaging in a “hunger strike.” In his motivational message, he stated, “Now, we are about to fast. We are starting January 11. 100 days, that’s all. If you fast continuously for 14 days, that will count for 28 days. If you fast continuously for 21 days, that will count for 63 days. Each day will be three if you fast 21 days continuously—that’s 63 years. If you fast continuously for 30 days, that will count for 100 days.”

He reassured his congregation that he would actively participate in the fasting, committing to undertake several extended fasting periods to collectively cover the entire 100 days. Adeboye also advised church members to avoid idle chatter during this spiritual period.

Looking ahead, he expressed confidence that 2025 would be a significant year, referencing the scripture, “The kingdom of God suffers violence, and the violent take it by force,” as a theme that would manifest during this time.
