Peter Obi further elaborated, “It doesn’t matter what she does; I won’t marry anyone else. She will always be my wife. Whatever she chooses to do is her own business.
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for Nigeria’s 2023 general elections, has publicly reaffirmed his dedication to his wife, Margaret Brownson, insisting that he would never consider divorce—regardless of the circumstances, even infidelity.
During an episode of The Honest Bunch podcast—hosted by comedian and actor Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, better known as Nedu Wazobia—Obi shared his personal philosophy on marriage and fidelity, emphasizing his unwavering loyalty to his spouse.
The former governor of Anambra State made it clear that he would stand by his wife no matter the challenges they may face, including the possibility of infidelity. “Whatever my wife does today, I won’t divorce her. I can’t separate from her; I can never,” he declared. “Even if she were to shoot me, as long as I am alive, she’s my wife.”
Obi further elaborated, “It doesn’t matter what she does; I won’t marry anyone else. She will always be my wife. Whatever she chooses to do is her own business. Even if it were to involve an affair, that’s on her. They won’t say we both engaged in an affair; they would say Peter Obi is a very good man married to a woman who is [promiscuous]. That’s how it would be viewed.”
He emphasized the importance of individual identities within a marriage, stating, “You can’t define me by my wife’s actions or the lives of my children. We lead separate lives. For instance, sometimes when we travel, we may be on the same plane but in different classes. She might be in business class while I’m in economy, as that arrangement suits her, and it doesn’t conflict with my interests.”
Obi’s remarks have ignited conversations on social media, with many users sharing their perspectives on issues of loyalty, commitment in marriage, and the nature of forgiveness.
