The Plateau State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into an incident involving one of its officers accused of severing his wife’s hand following a dispute over money. The officer, identified as an Inspector, reportedly committed the act after his wife allegedly refused to give him ₦3,000 from the ₦20,000 he had left at home.
According to reports obtained on Tuesday, the Inspector had left the money at their residence in the Dong area of Jos North local government area before leaving for the day. Upon his return, a confrontation ensued between him and his pregnant wife over the money, resulting in a violent altercation that led to the severing of her hand.
The State Police Command confirmed the incident and stated that the officer in question has been apprehended, with an ongoing investigation into the matter. Police Spokesman, DSP Alfred Alabo, disclosed that the Inspector is currently held at the State CID while investigations continue.
The altercation, which escalated over the disagreement regarding the money, left the woman hospitalized. A neighbor, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed that the wife, who is pregnant, had refused to give the Inspector ₦3,000 from the ₦20,000. The dispute quickly escalated, culminating in the tragic incident where the woman’s hand was severed. She was promptly rushed to a hospital for medical attention.
