In a major breakthrough, police operatives in Kano State recover Fake currencies worth over N129 billion and arrest three suspects, while another operation in Kaduna leads to the capture of three gunrunners and the seizure of live ammunition.
The Nigerian Police Force has apprehended three individuals in possession of bundles of fake currencies valued at a staggering N129.5 billion in Gwale, Kano State.
The Kano State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed the arrest on Tuesday, detailing the discovery of fake US Dollars, CFA, and Naira notes, among other currencies stolen from a foreign currency dealer.
The suspects, identified as Nura Ibrahim, Muhammed Muntari, and Usman Abdullahi, were caught following a police operation on December 8, 2024.
Breakthrough in Kano
“A search on Nura Ibrahim led to the recovery of N392,000 in counterfeit notes, USD7,800 in fake currency, and five ATM cards,”
SP Kiyawa stated.
“Further investigations resulted in the arrest of his accomplices and the seizure of additional counterfeit currencies.”
Gunrunners Arrested in Kaduna
In a separate operation, the police arrested three suspected gunrunners on December 9, 2024, along the Kaduna-Kano Expressway. The suspects, identified as Buhari Suleiman, Jamil Yakubu, and Aliyu Abdullahi, were intercepted after exhibiting suspicious behavior.
A search uncovered 216 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and one AK-47 round.
