The Kano State Police Command has paraded 269 suspects arrested in connection with the destruction of property and looting of items from shops and offices during a nationwide hardship protest that turned violent on Thursday.
The protest, which was initially peaceful, took a violent turn when hoodlums hijacked the exercise, leading to widespread destruction and looting of shops and offices. The looters were seen moving valuables, including chairs, computers, and other items.
In response to the chaos, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State declared a 24-hour curfew on Thursday, which was later relaxed on Friday.
According to the police spokesperson in the state, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the police recovered some of the looted items from the suspects. The arrested individuals are currently being held in custody.
