Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu Initiates Food Discount Program for Sokoto Residents
Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, officially launched a special committee on Monday aimed at providing assorted food items to residents at a remarkable 55 percent discount. During the inauguration, the governor detailed that the initiative is part of his administration’s broader efforts to address the economic challenges stemming from subsidy removal and the global financial downturn.
Governor Aliyu emphasized that the discounted foodstuffs are intended for all inhabitants of Sokoto State, regardless of political affiliation or ethnic background. He acknowledged the harsh economic realities faced both nationally and internationally, remarking on the numerous hardships that have emerged due to fluctuating global economic conditions.
“We are all aware that the current political climate has generated significant economic instability, affecting both local and global financial situations,” Aliyu stated. He highlighted the various palliative measures implemented by federal and state governments to alleviate hardships on the populace.
To assist those in need, the state government has previously distributed palliatives across various regions free of charge and has also procured subsidized mass transit vehicles to improve transportation for citizens.
In this latest initiative, Governor Aliyu confirmed that essential commodities, including food items, would be sold at a significant discount to help families better access necessary supplies. The program ensures that resources will be available across all 244 wards in Sokoto State, allowing equitable access for all families, regardless of social or political differences. The governor reassured residents that the initiative would continue until the country’s economic conditions improve.
In a call to action, Aliyu encouraged well-to-do community members and corporate entities to support this program by contributing basic food items and essential goods to assist the less fortunate in their neighborhoods.
Chiso Dattijo, the chairman of the newly formed committee, praised the governor’s decision, describing it as timely and a step in the right direction.
