Drug Addictive Son Stabs Mother To Death In Delta State

Tragedy struck in Obiaruku, Delta State, when a 23-year-old man, identified as Samson, allegedly stabbed his 50-year-old mother to death in a fit of rage.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred at around 5 a.m. on Tuesday morning when Samson’s mother confronted him about smoking in the early hours of the day. The argument escalated, and Samson allegedly retrieved a knife from inside the house and stabbed his mother.

The eyewitnesses, who preferred to remain anonymous, stated that Samson had been struggling with drug addiction since returning from Asaba, where he was sent to learn a trade after completing his secondary school education. After his drug addiction was noticed, his mother took him to a local mental health facility for treatment.

The brothers of the deceased, including one who is a sickle cell patient, were awoken by the commotion and rushed to the scene, where they found their mother lying in a pool of blood. The family’s compound gate was still locked at the time, but the noise drew the attention of neighbors who quickly entered the compound.

Police operatives arrived at the scene shortly after and arrested Samson while he was standing near his mother’s lifeless body. Efforts to reach the Delta State Police Command spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, for comments on the incident were unsuccessful as his phone number was busy throughout.

The motive behind the gruesome attack remains unclear, but it is believed that Samson’s drug addiction played a significant role in his actions. The incident serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of substance abuse and the importance of addressing mental health issues in society.
