Community Demands Justice as Tragic Death of Student Sparks Investigation into Alleged Abuse at Ogun School
In a disturbing incident that has sparked public outrage, a teenage student, identified as Monday Ariyo, tragically lost his life after allegedly being flogged “164 times” by a teacher at Obada Grammar School in Imeko Afon Local Government Area, Ogun State.
The incident reportedly began when Ariyo questioned a teacher’s instruction not to break a dustbin in the classroom, saying, “Is it not our money they used to buy it?” According to reports, this remark was relayed to the principal, who allegedly instructed that Ariyo be disciplined. Following this, his teacher is said to have inflicted multiple lashes, totaling 164, until the boy collapsed.
Ariyo was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but did not survive. A video circulating online captures the somber moment his body was placed in an ambulance at the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta.
Social media activist @justadetoun, who shared the incident, expressed frustration over the rushed plans for his burial, demanding a full investigation and accountability from Ogun State authorities. She warned that “there will be hell to pay” if Ariyo is buried before she arrives to ensure justice.
This tragic event has ignited calls for accountability and a thorough investigation, with many calling for justice for Monday Ariyo.
