Minister of Solid Minerals Development Channels Rice Palliative to Ekiti’s Elderly Population

In a bid to alleviate the effects of hunger and poverty in Ekiti State, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, has announced that the 1,200 bags of rice made available to him by the Presidency as a palliative measure will be distributed exclusively to the elderly citizens of the state.

According to a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Segun Tomori, the minister explained that the decision was taken to demonstrate the Omoluabi values of taking care of the elderly in the community. “We need to reach out to our aged fathers and mothers at times like this,” Alake emphasized.

The minister revealed that the distribution will focus on elderly citizens who do not have the strength to compete for welfare goods at established centers. He assured that an inventory has been taken and delivery is underway.

Alake also hinted that subsequent interventions will target other segments of the population, including widows, orphans, persons living with disabilities, and students in higher institutions of learning.

In a call to action, the minister urged all public-spirited Ekiti people to lend a hand to those in need. “All hands must be on deck to support all efforts to rid our state of hunger and poverty,” he emphasized.

With this development, the people of Ekiti State are expected to benefit from this initiative, particularly the elderly who are most vulnerable to the effects of poverty and hunger.
