Ilorin Court Dissolves Marriage Over Financial Insecurity
Kwara, Nigeria – Area Court in Ilorin’s Centre-Igboro area has dissolved the marriage between Toyin Ajibola and Bashirat Mohammed due to the husband’s inability to provide financial security. The judge, Hammad Ajumonbi, cited the wife’s need to move on and not be left stranded as the reason for the dissolution.
The court granted custody of the couple’s three children to the wife, with a condition that she observe a three-month waiting period before remarrying. The husband, Toyin Ajibola, was ordered to be responsible for the children’s feeding to the best of his ability. He will also have unrestricted access to the children, with the mother required to make them available at any time he requests.
The case began when Mohammed applied for divorce, citing her husband’s irresponsibility and lack of money as the reason for her desire to end the marriage. Ajibola, on the other hand, expressed his desire to continue the marriage despite his financial struggles. He claimed to have been trying hard to provide for his family but was unable to do so.
In his ruling, Judge Ajumonbi acknowledged the wife’s desire to move on and emphasized her right to a better life. The court’s decision aims to ensure that both parties are able to move forward with their lives, with the welfare of the children being a top priority.
The divorce highlights the challenges faced by many couples in Nigeria, where financial insecurity is a common issue in many marriages. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of open communication and mutual support in relationships, as well as the need for partners to prioritize their financial stability and security.
