Nyesom Wike Debunks Rumors of Health Collapse at Event

On Thursday, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State, refuted recent social media claims suggesting he collapsed at an event the previous week. Wike made these comments during an inspection of several ongoing projects in the Federal Capital Territory, including the International Conference Centre in Abuja.

He characterized the rumors as the product of individuals seeking to gain political advantage. Furthermore, Wike implied the speculations were an attempt to distract the public from serious allegations made by George Nwaeke, the former Head of Service in Rivers State, concerning an explosion that occurred at the Rivers State House of Assembly.

“I don’t intend to validate those whose only interest lies in spreading rumors. I’m a human being, not a ghost; collapses happen to people facing health issues. However, I assure you, I did not collapse,” Wike stated. “Everyone will eventually pass away; no one lives forever. Only God dictates the time of our passing, not mortals. Those who claim I’m on my deathbed can be assured they will receive my condolence letter.”

The minister reaffirmed his dedication to fulfilling his responsibilities under President Bola Tinubu’s direction. According to reports, the rumors, which gained traction on social media platform X, falsely alleged that Wike had collapsed during a Friday event in Abuja and was subsequently flown abroad for medical treatment.

However, he publicly appeared two days later, participating in a Sallah homage with other dignitaries at the Presidential Villa, where he appeared to be in good spirits, further quelling any concerns regarding his health. Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, had previously dismissed the claims as baseless, insisting there was no truth to the rumors circulating online.
