Yaradua’s Mother, Hajiya Dada Yaradua Passes Away at 96 In Kastina
Hajiya Dada Yar’adua, the mother of Nigeria’s former President Umaru Musa Yar’adua, has passed away at the age of 96. She died on Monday evening, August 2, 2024, at the Katsina Teaching Hospital.
Dada Yar’adua was not just a revered figure within her family but a significant presence in Nigeria’s political landscape. She was the wife of Musa Yar’Adua, the Mutawallen Katsina, who served as Minister of Lagos Affairs during Nigeria’s First Republic.
As the mother of two key figures in Nigeria’s political history—Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, the second-in-command in the Obasanjo-led military regime, and Umar Musa Yar’Adua, Nigeria’s former president—her influence spanned generations.
Her legacy continues through her surviving children and grandchildren, including Col. Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the current Mutawallen Katsina and Senator representing Katsina Central Senatorial District. Another of her grandchildren, Murtala Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, served as a minister under the Goodluck Jonathan administration. Additionally, three of her granddaughters are married to prominent politicians in Nigeria.
Hajiya Dada Yar’adua’s death marks the end of an era for one of Nigeria’s most influential political families.
