The African Development Bank President, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina has been awarded the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo Prize for Leadership for 2024.

His has earned him a congratulatory statement from the Nigerian president.

In a press statement, President Bola Tinubu extended his heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), for being honored with the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo Prize for Leadership.

Dr. Adesina’s recognition places him among esteemed past recipients including Nigeria’s Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka; former President of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki, and respected lawyer-educationist, Chief Afe Babalola.

President Tinubu commended Dr. Adesina for his visionary efforts to revolutionize agriculture in Africa, ensuring food security across the continent. Notably, President Tinubu highlighted Dr. Adesina’s transformative initiatives during his tenure as Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, which significantly impacted the country’s agriculture value chains.

Acknowledging Dr. Adesina’s exemplary integrity and leadership, President Tinubu lauded his remarkable achievements in agriculture, a sector pivotal for Africa’s development. Dr. Adesina’s contributions have garnered global recognition, including the prestigious World Food Prize in 2017.
