The Nigerian government has disbanded the Federal Special Anti – Robbery Squad (SARS) after series of protests calling for its dissolution went viral and attracted international attention.
The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu announced the immediate dissolution of the unit, Sunday in a press briefing in Abuja, and the redeployment of all the officers serving within the unit while an investigation into the unit will be undertaken with the civil society organizations and the culprits punished.
IGP also sympathized with victims of the unit’s brutality and the doggedness, resilience and determination of Nigerians on disbanding SARS.
He saluted officers of the police unit on their dedication to the security, welfare and well-being of Nigerians over the years, urging them to exhibit more of such dedication in their future endeavours.
