The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has received 66 trafficked Nigerians from Ghana, following a collaborative effort with the Ghanaian government.
The returnees, comprising 59 women, including children, and seven young men, arrived at the Seme-Krake Joint Border Post office of Immigration on Saturday evening.
According to Comptroller Abdullahi Adamu, the Area Controller of Seme Command of NIS, the rescue mission was made possible through the assistance of the High Commissioner in Ghana and the Nigerian attaché in Ghana.
The trafficked individuals were lured to Ghana with promises of a better life but were instead forced into prostitution. One of the returnees, Uche John from Port-Harcourt, shared her ordeal, stating that she was happy to be back in Nigeria and had learned her lessons.
This rescue effort is part of the ongoing collaboration between Nigeria and Ghana to combat human trafficking. The returnees will be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further assistance.
This development comes after the recent rescue of 58 Nigerian women and children trafficked to Ghana, bringing the total number of rescued individuals to 105 over the past few months.
