Anambra State Commissioner for Youths Development, Agha Mba, and his wife were reportedly kidnapped on Friday by unknown gunmen.
The attack occurred as they were traveling to Abuja for the wedding of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s daughter. In a tragic turn, one of Mba’s aides, a resident of Onitsha, was killed during the incident.
As of now, neither the Anambra State Government nor the Nigerian Police Force has released an official statement regarding the kidnapping and killing.
This shocking incident comes amid a rising tide of violence in southeastern Nigeria. In a related event earlier in May, gunmen launched an attack at Nkwo Ibagwa market in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State. The attackers, reportedly enforcing a sit-at-home order to commemorate Biafra Heroes Day on May 30, left scores injured and caused massive destruction.
During the attack, the gunmen destroyed goods worth millions of naira, set two commercial buses and two tricycles on fire, and caused widespread panic among traders.
The aftermath of the assault left charred vehicles and tricycles scattered across the market, with residents and traders reeling from their losses.
The escalating violence has heightened fears across the region as authorities struggle to restore order.
