The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has charged two Chinese nationals, Duan Ya Hong and Xiao Yi, and their company, Ebuy Concept Limited, with illegal mining activities in Kwara State.

According to a statement released by the EFCC on Friday, the defendants were arraigned before the Federal High Court in Ilorin on Monday, April 22.

The charges against them include possession of solid minerals without the necessary government authorization and failure to pay royalties to the Federal Government, in violation of Nigerian laws.

The EFCC stated that the defendants were arraigned on a one-count charge bordering on possession of solid minerals without a license and non-payment of royalties to the Federal Government as required by law.

This move by the EFCC is a significant step in combating illegal mining activities in Nigeria and ensuring that companies operate within the bounds of the law.

The outcome of the trial is eagerly awaited as it sets a precedent for future cases of illegal mining in the country.
