In a bid to enhance efficiency and effectiveness, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has undergone significant restructuring under the leadership of Chairman Ola Olukoyede. The agency announced the appointment of Mr. Michael Nzekwe as Chief of Staff and the designation of 14 Zonal Directors across its commands.

Mr. Nzekwe, described as a seasoned investigator and lawyer, previously served as the Commander of the Ilorin Zonal Command. His appointment is aimed at bolstering the agency’s investigative capabilities and overall performance.

As part of the restructuring, all Zonal Commands have been elevated to departmental status, each headed by a director. This move is intended to streamline operations and enhance coordination in combating financial crimes across the nation.

Moreover, the EFCC has upgraded its Security Unit to a department, appointing a seasoned officer as Director of Security and Chief Security Officer to strengthen its security architecture.

Additionally, a new department has been established within the Executive Chairman’s office, led by former Makurdi Zonal Commander Mr. Friday Ebelo. This department will focus on special duties and coordination at the commission’s headquarters.

Furthermore, the Department of Internal Affairs has been renamed the Department of Ethics and Integrity, reflecting the agency’s commitment to upholding ethical standards.

These changes signal a proactive approach by the EFCC to reposition itself for greater efficiency and effectiveness in tackling financial crimes and corruption in Nigeria.
