The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reported a significant achievement in its first year under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The anti-graft agency recovered N231.6 billion and secured 3,175 convictions, according to the latest edition of EFCC Alert.
The recovery includes various currencies: $70,260,544.18, £29,264.50, €208,297.10, ₹51,360.00, C$3,950.00, A$740.00, ¥74,754.00, R35,000.00, 42,390.00 UAE Dirhams, and 247.00 Riyals. Mohammed Hammajoda, Secretary to the EFCC, shared these figures during an event with Nigerian students, representing EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede.
Despite these accomplishments, Hammajoda expressed deep concern over the rising involvement of youth in cybercrime, commonly referred to as “yahoo yahoo.”
He emphasized that the EFCC remains committed to combating such crimes and urged students to avoid internet fraud, highlighting that a conviction for fraud can have lifelong consequences.
Hammajoda called on Nigerian students to redirect their creative energies toward positive endeavors, asserting that engaging in fraud is neither creative nor smart.
The EFCC continues its efforts to eradicate fraud and discourage young people from participating in illegal activities.
