Emir Sanusi prayed for divine intervention and justice, stating, “Whoever has done good knows, and whoever has done bad knows, and they will all see the consequences. We pray that God grants the government the opportunity to restore what has been lost.”
Kano’s 16th Emir, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, has attributed the violent attacks on public and private properties during the recent #EndBadGovernance protests in Kano to intelligence failures.
On August 1, the first day of the demonstrations, vandals hijacked the peaceful protest, causing extensive damage to properties including the Kano Printing Press, the NCC Digital Industrial Park, and Barakat Stores. Emir Sanusi criticized the security agencies for failing to act despite prior warnings.
“Those responsible for this are enemies of Kano and its people,” the Emir said during an inspection of the damage. He noted that security operatives had been informed in advance but did not intervene to prevent the destruction.
The Emir expressed profound sorrow over the damage to the Kano Printing Press, a historic site established in 1938, stating, “My grandfather worked here. It is heartbreaking that a place like this has been destroyed by their grandchildren.”
Emir Sanusi prayed for divine intervention and justice, stating, “Whoever has done good knows, and whoever has done bad knows, and they will all see the consequences. We pray that God grants the government the opportunity to restore what has been lost.”
Muhammad Tajo Othman, the state’s Commissioner of Science and Technology and ICT, confirmed that the state government has received approval to restore the damaged properties and replace the looted items. He also expressed disappointment that the NCC Centre, which was set to be commissioned this week, was vandalized and partially set on fire.
