The UK government says it is closely in tune with happenings in Nigeria as regards the #EndSARS protests and calls for a peaceful police reform process.

The Minister for Africa for the UK Government, James Duddridge MP, says the United Kingdom is monitoring the #EndSARS protests in Nigeria and calls for a peaceful police reform process.

The Minister, a representative of Rochford and Southend East in the Parliament disclosed this on Friday evening via a tweet.

We are monitoring developments in #Nigeria closely. I note the Nigerian people’s democratic and peaceful calls for police reform. The UK & @CatrionaLaing1 continue to support the Nigerian Government in delivering reforms.

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, also affirmed that the UK government is following the events closely and called on authorities to to protect people’s fundamental rights.

Nigerians have been on a two-week long protests, now collaborated in many cities worldwide, to protest police brutality in the west African country.

The country’s vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, tendered an apology to the citizens for delays in tackling the issue earlier pleading to protesters to leave the streets. Citizens say they are tired of endless rhetoric by the government and will continue with the protests until they see real efforts from the government.
