In 2024 alone, Facebook reported paying creators over $2 billion, with Reels and short-form video earnings increasing by more than 80%. Since introducing monetization tools in 2017, the platform has compensated over 4 million creators.

Facebook has unveiled a new way for content creators to earn revenue, now allowing them to monetize views on public Stories. This latest update is available worldwide for those enrolled in the Facebook Content Monetization program, offering creators an additional income stream without requiring a minimum view threshold.

Under this initiative, creators can earn money by sharing content on their Stories, whether it’s snippets from existing videos, reels, or everyday updates. A Meta spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch via email that payouts will be based on content performance.

The move is part of Facebook’s broader strategy to attract and retain creators, particularly as it competes with platforms like TikTok. In recent years, Meta has introduced cash bonuses, content deals, and growth support to entice creators to engage more actively on Facebook and Instagram.

Creators already in the monetization program with content monetization enabled will automatically qualify for this new earning opportunity without additional steps.

Facebook first launched its Content Monetization program in 2023, consolidating features like in-stream ads, ads on Reels, and performance bonuses into a single system. After an initial beta test, the company has now expanded Stories monetization to all eligible users.

In 2024 alone, Facebook reported paying creators over $2 billion, with Reels and short-form video earnings increasing by more than 80%. Since introducing monetization tools in 2017, the platform has compensated over 4 million creators.

While millions of creators have already received invitations to the program, the company intends to open enrollment more broadly later this year. In the meantime, interested users can register their interest through the program’s official website.

REPORT AFRIQUE earlier reported that Meta has confirmed the expansion of its monetization features to Nigerian creators on Facebook starting in June. Initially, the company announced that monetization in Nigeria would begin in June 2024, focusing only on Instagram. However, new information shared by Meta with Legit.ng reveals that Nigerian creators on Facebook will also be included.

In an email exchange with Legit.ng, Meta confirmed that Nigerian Facebook creators would be eligible to earn on the platform from June. Responding to a query on the matter, Meta stated:”Yes, starting June 2024, creators in Nigeria will be eligible to monetize their content. We’re working to bring our creator monetization products to Nigeria, with a rollout beginning in June.”

This update means that Nigerian creators who meet the eligibility criteria will be able to run in-stream ads and access monetization tools such as Instagram Stars and Gifts, similar to those available to creators in other parts of the world. When asked if monetization would be exclusive to Instagram, Meta clarified:”Monetization won’t be limited to just Instagram. Nigerian creators eligible for our monetization products will also be able to monetize on Facebook. We’re working diligently to make these features available in Nigeria in June, and our team is committed to ensuring a swift rollout.”
