Abuja, Nigeria -The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has denied being aware of or investigating an alleged theft of ₦180 million from the account of an NGO owned by social media commentator Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).

In a video posted on Instagram on Friday, Otse claimed that a total of ₦180 million was transferred from the NGO’s account to an unknown destination, leaving only ₦20 million in the account.

“I’ve not been myself these past few days,” Otse said in the video. “Somebody hacked into the NGO website, and ₦180 million is missing. Thankfully, we’ve tracked the person, and one suspect has been arrested. The account is now on PND (Post No Debit). There’s ₦20 million left, while ₦160 million was diverted. We’re heading to Jos to recover the money.”

The announcement has sparked widespread skepticism online, with many questioning the credibility of the claims and seeking more clarity on the matter.

However, the FCT Police Command distanced itself from the case. Speaking on Saturday, the Command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, stated that the police were unaware of the alleged incident and were not investigating the matter.

“The FCT Police Command is not aware of any case involving VDM’s missing funds and is not conducting any investigation into it,” Adeh said. “The individual in question should be contacted to clarify where the matter was reported, as there is no record of such a case with the FCT Police Command.”

Efforts to reach the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, for comments were unsuccessful. Calls to his line went unanswered, and he had not responded to a message regarding the matter at the time of this report.
