Abuja – The Federal Government has commenced the construction of 216 housing units for civil servants at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN) in Abuja.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place at the PSIN in Kubwa, Abuja, and was led by the outgoing Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF), Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan.

Dr. Esan highlighted the Bola Tinubu administration’s commitment to providing affordable housing for civil servants. She emphasized that the new homes would be of high quality and affordable, noting the limited earnings of civil servants.

The housing units will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

At the event, Dr. Yemi-Esan was accompanied by the incoming Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF), Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, as well as several permanent secretaries from the Federal Civil Service.

In addition to the housing project, Dr. Esan inaugurated a new indoor sports complex at PSIN.

The complex, named in her honor, is intended to promote the physical and mental well-being of civil servants. Dr. Abdul-Ganiyu Obatoyinbo, PSIN Administrator, described the sports complex as a lasting legacy of Dr. Esan’s tenure and a key element in enhancing civil servants’ welfare.

Obatoyinbo noted that these initiatives are aligned with Pillar 6 of the Federal Civil Service Strategies and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP 25), which focuses on improving workers’ welfare to boost productivity and service delivery.

He also highlighted the role of sports in supporting mental well-being, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda’s emphasis on sports, entertainment, and culture.
