BREAKING: FG Halts FAAC Allocation to Rivers State
The development has added to the growing tensions between the Rivers State government and the Federal Government, with potential implications for the state’s finances and governance.

Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian government has announced that it will withhold the October monthly revenue payment from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) to Rivers State.

This decision comes amidst the escalating conflict between Governor Simi Fubara and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesome Wike.

According to Bawa Mokwa, spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, the payment halt was implemented in compliance with a court order. The court ruling prohibits the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigerian government from distributing monthly allocations to the Rivers State government.

Mokwa stated that the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) will adhere to the court ruling, emphasizing that the Federal Government will obey the court order until a contrary order is issued.

The court order was obtained by the factional Rivers State Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule, who alleged that the State Executive, under Governor Simi Fubara, failed to comply with a Federal High Court order directing it to re-present the 2024 appropriation bill to the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The development has added to the growing tensions between the State government and the Federal Government, with potential implications for the state’s finances and governance.
