Abuja – The Presidency has dismissed rumors of a strained relationship between President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, labeling the allegations as baseless and unfounded.

In a statement issued by Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, the Presidency emphasized that no vice president in Nigeria’s history has enjoyed as much trust and support from the president as Shettima has under Tinubu’s administration.

Nkwocha made these remarks in a tribute to Vice President Shettima on the occasion of his 58th birthday. The tribute, titled “VP Shettima @ 58: A Boss, Mentor, and Quintessential Leader,” aimed to debunk rumors that Shettima had been marginalised by the Tinubu administration.

Nkwocha praised Shettima for his leadership qualities and unwavering loyalty to President Tinubu, calling the rumors of a rift in the Presidency “ludicrous conspiracy theories.” He highlighted Shettima’s dedication to public service, noting his success in various roles, including as a commissioner, governor, senator, and now vice president.

“In the history of Nigeria’s Presidency, no Vice President has enjoyed the total confidence and full support of his principal like Shettima,” Nkwocha stated. “His loyalty to President Tinubu is absolute and unalloyed, as attested by well-meaning Nigerians who have been following developments in the presidency.”

Nkwocha further praised the Vice President’s contributions to the administration, particularly in shaping economic policies, advocating for fiscal discipline, and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). He also commended the Nigerian number two citizen’s commitment to social justice and human development, which has led to significant investments in education, healthcare, and social welfare programs.

“As a proud son of the North East, he has ensured that the region’s concerns and aspirations are represented at the highest level of government,” Nkwocha added. “His influence has promoted regional balance and inclusivity, fostering a sense of belonging among Nigerians from diverse backgrounds.”

The statement concluded by reaffirming that the relationship between President Tinubu and the Vice President remains strong and focused on delivering the administration’s goals for Nigeria.
