Port Harcourt, Nigeria – Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has lauded the former Commissioner of Police in the state, Olatunji Disu, for his exemplary efforts in combating crime and maintaining peace.
Fubara described Disu as a consummate professional whose leadership has significantly contributed to safeguarding the state.
Speaking at a meeting with the National President of the Police Officers Wives’ Association (POWA), Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun, at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Friday, Fubara emphasized his administration’s commitment to delivering impactful programs that will improve the lives of residents and leave a lasting legacy.
“Without CP Disu’s professional conduct, Rivers State would have been destroyed,” Fubara declared, adding that Disu’s balanced approach has played a pivotal role in keeping the state secure amidst various challenges. He assured that his administration will continue to provide the necessary support to the police force to ensure the security and safety of the state.
The governor also called on wives of police officers to support their husbands by encouraging them to discharge their duties with integrity and professionalism. He urged them to intercede in prayers for the state and its leaders, stating that adherence to the path of truth will always prevail in the end.
Addressing Challenges and Building a Legacy
Governor Fubara noted that his administration has faced several distractions from what he termed “self-styled adversaries” who aim to destabilize the state’s governance. However, he reaffirmed his resolve to remain focused on delivering quality governance that will be remembered for its positive impact.
“We will continue to do the best we can for our people. At the end of the day, what people want to see is the mark we have made, not the level of distraction we have faced,” Fubara stated.
He stressed the importance of building a good name and legacy, adding that the actions of today’s leaders will reflect in history. “When our names are mentioned in the future, it should be met with respect and recognition of good deeds. That is the greatest legacy anyone can leave behind,” the governor said.
Commending POWA’s Efforts

He also expressed appreciation to Mrs. Egbetokun and the leadership of POWA for commissioning the new POWA Shopping Complex in Port Harcourt, noting that the facility will empower women and provide economic opportunities for members of the association.
In her remarks, Mrs. Egbetokun expressed gratitude to Governor Fubara for his continuous support to POWA and the police command. She highlighted that POWA’s mission is to support police officers’ families and provide lifelines for widows, and she acknowledged the governor’s generosity as a vital component in achieving these goals.
The visit was part of POWA’s ongoing tour to inspect projects and assess the welfare of its members across the country. The newly inaugurated shopping complex in Port Harcourt is expected to serve as a hub for empowerment and economic growth for police officers’ wives in the state.
Governor Pledges Continued Support to Police
Governor Fubara reiterated his commitment to supporting the police force in Rivers State and called on CP Disu to inform him of any areas requiring further assistance. He described Disu as a diligent and dedicated officer and pledged to ensure that the police have the resources needed to maintain peace and security in the state.
“What is important is that we keep building a state where our children can proudly mention our names and receive positive responses. That is the legacy I intend to leave behind,” Fubara concluded.
