New evidence in the case of Linda Angela Igwetu, a 23-year-old female corps member serving in Abuja who was shot by a policeman during a stop and search operation in Abuja, reveals that undue negligence on the part of the hospital may have contributed to her demise.
During a session by the house committee investigating the incident, a staff of Garki hospital wrote in her statement that staff on duty browsed the internet for alternative procedures to drain blood from the victim’s body while she was in the hospital. According to the staff, the hospital had expired chest tubes as at when the victim was brought into the hospital. When they could not see an alternative online, they demanded for money from the victim’s friends to purchase the test tubes.
Though, the tubes were later purchased by the police DPO hours later, the victim died before help could be rendered to her.
The deceased, Linda Angela Igwetu was reportedly shot around 3am a day before her passing out of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) programme in June, 2018.
