The global advertising industry is on track to surpass the $1 trillion milestone in 2025, a year earlier than anticipated, with revenue projected to reach $989.8 billion in 2024. This growth is fueled by digital transformation, market recoveries, and advancements in technology, according to the 2024 Global Midyear Advertising Forecast.

The upward revision in global ad revenue projections highlights key trends reshaping the advertising landscape:

  1. Digital Advertising Boom: Pure-play digital advertising is forecasted to grow by 12.4% globally in 2024, with major contributions from social media, search engines, and programmatic platforms.
  2. Market Recovery: A rebound in economic activities in key markets like China is accelerating ad spend, boosting revenue growth globally.
  3. Technological Innovations: Tools like artificial intelligence (AI) are enabling brands to refine targeting strategies, driving higher returns on advertising investments.

Robust Revenue Projections

The report projects a 7.8% growth in 2024, up from the previously forecasted 5.3%, and anticipates a further 6.8% growth in 2025, culminating in a total global ad revenue of $1.1 trillion.

“Global ad revenue in 2024 will reach $989.8 billion, driven by digital advertising and recovery in key markets, paving the way for $1.1 trillion in 2025,” the report noted.

Market Leaders: U.S. and China

The United States and China continue to lead the global advertising landscape, collectively contributing 57.1% of global ad revenue:

  • U.S.: Revenue is forecasted to hit $365.9 billion in 2024, a 5.8% increase from 2023.
  • China: The market is expected to jump to $199.4 billion, showcasing accelerated recovery.

Combined, these two markets are set to add approximately $44.5 billion in incremental revenue in 2024.

The advertising market sees significant contributions from top-performing sectors:

  • Manufacturing: Leading with 22.21% of revenue share.
  • Information and Communication: Accounting for 20.89%.
  • Mining and Quarrying: Contributing 18.90%.

Sectors such as water supply and waste management, however, are experiencing declines.

Nigeria’s Advertising Growth

In Nigeria, advertising expenditure has grown significantly, with a 35.9% increase year-on-year from 2021 to 2022. However, a cautious approach in 2023 led to a slight dip amid economic uncertainties. Despite these challenges, companies in Nigeria are leveraging marketing strategies to maintain brand visibility and customer engagement.
