Yenagoa , Nigeria – Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has announced that he is proceeding on his annual leave, effective Monday, November 25, 2024.

The governor made the announcement on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

Governor Diri noted that his absence will not affect governance in the state, as Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo will take charge of all state functions. The governor also assured that his leave will not cause any delays in ongoing projects and programs by various ministries, agencies, and departments.

In his announcement, Governor Diri also provided an update on the prolonged blackout in the state. He expressed happiness that the state government’s intervention in repairing vandalized towers is yielding results, with the completion of restringing the damaged Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kV line.

The governor acknowledged the economic losses and pains caused by the blackout, particularly to business owners. However, he expressed hope that power will soon be restored once the recently vandalized conductor at towers 29 to 31 is replaced.

In addition, Governor Diri announced that the state government has commenced the development of an Independent Power Plant through the procurement and installation of new Gas Turbines. This move is aimed at ensuring a steady electricity supply in the state, in line with the ASSURED Prosperity Agenda.
