Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara visited the site of the devastating tanker explosion that occurred on the East-West Road in Eleme Local Government Area, leaving multiple persons dead and over 50 vehicles destroyed.
The Governor, accompanied by the Commissioner for Police, Olatunji Disu, and the Commissioner for Energy, Maximus Nwafor, inspected the scene of the inferno and expressed shock at the extent of the damage.
Governor Fubara directed security agencies to conduct a thorough assessment of the accident to facilitate the provision of aid to the families of the victims. He lamented the loss of lives and property, stating that the incident was “not a very pleasant case.”
The Governor also decried the deteriorating condition of the Eleme section of the East-West Road, describing it as “unfortunate.” He acknowledged that the road is a major concern for the state, as many people plying the road do so with caution.
The cause of the tanker explosion is yet to be determined, but investigations are ongoing. The exact number of casualties is also yet to be confirmed, as some bodies were found burnt beyond recognition.
The Rivers State Government has promised to provide support to the families of the victims and mitigate the effects of the losses.
