Taraba, Nigeria – Suspected gunmen, believed to be bandits, attacked the mother of Taraba State Governor, Jumai Kefas, and his sister, Atsi Kefas, on Friday along the Wukari-Kente road in Wukari Local Government Area.
The Chairman of Wukari Local Government Area confirmed the incident during a telephone interview with newsmen. According to him, men on motorcycles attempted to stop the vehicle transporting the governor’s mother and sister. A police escort reportedly fired a warning shot into the air in response to the attempted ambush.
“It is difficult to ascertain if the attackers were bandits, kidnappers, or armed robbers. Investigations are ongoing to determine their identities,” the chairman said. He did not confirm if any of the assailants had been apprehended.
During the incident, Atsi Kefas sustained a gunshot wound. She was initially treated at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Wukari, where her condition was stabilized before being transferred to Abuja for advanced medical care.
