Anambra State – The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) launched an attack on the Umunze Police Station in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, resulting in the deaths of two police officers, according to the state police command.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. yesterday when suspected IPOB members attempted to enforce the Monday sit-at-home directive in the community.

Eyewitnesses reported that three policemen were killed and several others were injured during the attack, though police authorities confirmed two fatalities.

The assailants reportedly stormed the police station with improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and opened fire on security personnel. In response, the Joint Security Forces, which included the Military, Police, Navy, Civil Defence, and local vigilance groups, managed to recover five unexploded IEDs.

State Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the attack, saying, “The Joint Security Forces recovered five unexploded improvised explosives and are currently pursuing the armed secessionist group members responsible for the attack.”

Ikenga added that part of the police station caught fire during the assault, but the situation is now under control as security forces continue their operations to apprehend the attackers.
