Kenya’s Serial killer Who Killed 42 Women Flees Nairobi Police Station with 12 Others

Nairobi, Kenya – Kenyan authorities are in the midst of a major security operation after Collins Jumaisi, a suspected serial killer dubbed “the vampire,” escaped from a police station in Nairobi on Tuesday. Jumaisi, who had confessed to murdering 42 women over the past two years, managed to break out alongside 12 other detainees, including 12 Eritrean nationals.

Escape Raises Questions About Police Integrity

The dramatic escape, which occurred in the upmarket Nairobi district of Gigiri, has placed Kenyan police under intense scrutiny. Preliminary investigations suggest the breakout was an inside job, leading to the suspension and arrest of eight officers who were on duty at the time.

Acting National Police Chief Gilbert Masengeli confirmed the suspicions, stating, “Our preliminary investigations indicate that the escape was aided by insiders.” He also noted that the matter is being probed by the Internal Affairs Unit.

Jumaisi, 33, was arrested last month after police found mutilated bodies in a dump within the Mukuru slum. His arrest sent shockwaves through the nation as he admitted to killing 42 women, starting with his own wife. The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) had reported that ten butchered female bodies were discovered trussed up in plastic bags at the crime scene.

Police on the Defensive

This is the second high-profile escape from police custody in Kenya this year. In February, Kevin Kangethe, a Kenyan national accused of murdering his girlfriend in the United States, also managed to flee a police station before being recaptured a week later.

Jumaisi’s escape has intensified calls for reform within the Kenyan police force, as the public demands accountability for these alarming lapses in security. The escaped detainees, including those arrested for illegal entry into Kenya, are the focus of an ongoing manhunt. Meanwhile, four other detainees who did not escape are reportedly cooperating with investigators.

The police are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as the search for the escapees continues.
