Anambra, Nigeria – Anambra State’s security outfit, Operation Udo Ga-Achi, codenamed Agunechemba, has demolished Udoka Golden Point Hotel and Suites, also known as “La Cruise Hotel,” situated along the Onitsha-Owerri Road. The action was taken following allegations that the hotel served as a hideout for kidnappers and other criminals.

In a statement shared on X late Saturday by the Anambra State New Media, it was revealed that the two-story building contained partitioned graves of over 30 individuals on its top floor, as well as a shrine used for suspected criminal and spiritual activities.

According to a video seen by REPORT AFRIQUE on Sunday, the leader of the demolition team disclosed that live ammunition, cartridges, and a blood-filled pot were recovered during the operation. These items have since been handed over to the police at the SARS Office in Awkuzu for investigation.

“The pot containing blood content, live ammunition, and cartridges was found during the operation and is now with the police as evidence,” the leader stated. He further highlighted that the hotel’s top floor had been used to partition graves, with spiritual rituals being conducted in the shrine located there.

When contacted, Mr. Christian Aburime, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, confirmed the demolition. He explained that investigations linked the hotel to criminal activities, including kidnapping.

“The hotel was destroyed because investigations revealed it was a den for kidnappers. Several disturbing items were found, including graves, army uniforms, and live cartridges. After the demolition, the community expressed relief, as they had frequently reported hearing gunshots at night from the location,” Aburime said.

He added that fear of retaliation often deterred locals from providing information about criminal activities in the area. However, with the implementation of the Homeland Security Law 2025, citizens are expected to feel safer reporting such cases.

The demolition is part of the state government’s intensified efforts to combat crime in Anambra. According to Aburime, more buildings connected to criminal activities will be demolished, and their owners will face prosecution.

“This action demonstrates our commitment to ridding Anambra State of kidnappers, robbers, and hired killers. We are making significant progress, and this drastic measure is already yielding positive results,” he added.

Authorities have vowed to continue their crackdown on criminal hideouts as part of efforts to restore safety and security in the state.
