Enugu, Nigeria – A fire incident has gutted Pinnacle Oil, a filling station owned by Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State.

The fire, which occurred on Friday, September 20, 2024, is suspected to have been caused by unknown arsonists.

Reports suggest that the assailants arrived in a Toyota Corolla and set the station ablaze. However, no casualties were recorded.

The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, confirmed the incident and stated that the fire had been extinguished with the assistance of both federal and state fire services. He added that while no lives were lost, three vehicles in the queue to purchase fuel were damaged by the fire.

“A fire incident occurred at Pinnacle Filling Station on Agbani Road, Enugu, in the morning hours of today. The fire was immediately put out with the support of fire service personnel,” CP Uzuegbu said.

The Commissioner noted that initial investigations point to a possible fuel leakage from one of the vehicles at the station as the cause of the fire. However, a full-scale investigation has been ordered, with the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) tasked with leading the probe.

Normalcy has since been restored at the scene, and the police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
