The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a stern ultimatum to Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State following a sharp 100% increase in school fees across state-owned institutions.
In a press briefing held at the Federal Polytechnic Ede, Ogungbe Taiwo, Chairman of NANS in Osun State, voiced concerns over what he termed as “empty promises” by the state government regarding student welfare.
Taiwo emphasized the failure of Governor Adeleke’s administration to prioritize student welfare and involve them in governance decisions.
He demanded an immediate reversal of the exorbitant fee hikes, citing a lack of additional support beyond federal government palliatives.
Despite attempts to elicit a response from the state government, Information Commissioner Kolapo Alimi remained unreachable, failing to respond to calls and text messages.
NANS has given Governor Adeleke a seven-day ultimatum to address the fee hike issue, signalling potential unrest among student bodies if their demands are not met.
