Peter Obi Donates N20 Million to Nursing Sciences at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala

Commitment to Health Sector Growth Highlighted Amidst World Sick Day Observance

Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, demonstrated unwavering support for the health sector by donating N20 million to the College of Nursing Sciences at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala, in Anambra state.

The generous contribution aims to bolster the training of health workers, particularly nurses, underscoring Obi’s dedication to healthcare development.

While World Sick Day was observed on Sunday, February 11, Obi postponed his comments to pay respects to the AFCON Finals and mourn the passing of close associates, Herbert Wigwe and Abimbola Ogunbajo, the statement reads.

Obi’s donation echoes his longstanding commitment to advancing health worker training, a critical indicator of societal progress.

His support for the College of Nursing, Ihiala, dates back to his tenure as Governor of Anambra State.

Expressing appreciation for the college’s growth and its role in training over a thousand students in nursing, midwifery, and medical lab science, Obi commended the proprietor, management, and staff for their dedication.

In addition to the donation, Obi seized the opportunity to appeal to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) to reconsider stringent measures impeding nurses’ verifications for migration.

He emphasized the importance of investing in more training institutions for healthcare professionals and supporting their global opportunities for the nation’s benefit.

Obi stressed that facilitating Nigerian nurses’ access to international opportunities not only fosters global exposure but also generates substantial foreign remittances, surpassing oil revenue.

Concluding his remarks, Obi urged the NMCN to promptly reverse these measures for the benefit of Nigerian nurses and the nation as a whole.

Peter Obi was the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last general election held in 2023.

Mr Obi after losing his presidential bid to the APC has been vocal in criticising the policies of the Tinubu-led administration.
