Abuja, Nigeria — Former Senate Majority Leader, Jonathan Zwingina, has reportedly passed away at the age of 70. Although his family is yet to officially confirm the news, credible sources indicate that the veteran politician died on Wednesday, October 2, in Abuja.
Zwingina, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, was widely recognized for his contributions to the country’s democratic development. His passing is being mourned as a significant loss to the Nungurala community, Adamawa State, and the nation at large.
Born in Adamawa State, Zwingina began his political career as a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He represented the Adamawa Southern Senatorial District for two consecutive terms, serving in the Senate from 1999 to 2007. During his tenure, he held the influential position of Senate Majority Leader. In later years, he shifted political allegiances, joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Zwingina marked his 70th birthday just two months ago, in August 2024. His contributions to Nigerian politics, especially in legislative affairs, have left an indelible mark on the nation’s history.
