Constable Banele Sikhosana, a dedicated officer with the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), was gunned down outside his tuck shop on February 7, 2025. Initially believed to be a targeted attack by criminals, investigations have since revealed a far more disturbing reality—his own wife, Sibongile Dlamini, is accused of plotting and financing the murder.

The case took a dramatic turn when one of the alleged hitmen, Nhlizitozabantu Magwanyana, was arrested by police. During interrogation, Magwanyana confessed to the crime, implicating an accomplice who remains at large. He further revealed that the officer’s wife had hired them to carry out the murder, with payments made before and after the killing.

EMPD Chief of Police, Julius Mkhwanazi, confirmed the details during a press briefing, stating that investigators had uncovered disturbing evidence pointing to a premeditated crime. According to Mkhwanazi, Dlamini had previously attempted to poison her husband just a week before the fatal shooting, but when that plan failed, she resorted to hiring gunmen to execute the attack.

Dlamini was arrested on February 14, 2025—Valentine’s Day—while the community and fellow officers were still mourning Sikhosana’s death. What has left many in disbelief is that she had been seen publicly wailing and mourning at a police parade held in honor of her late husband, appearing inconsolable while standing beside his grieving family and colleagues.

“She was crying more than anyone else, yet she was the mastermind behind his death,” said an EMPD officer who attended the parade. “It’s sickening.”

Court Appearance Set for Monday

The suspects already in custody, including Sikhosana’s wife, are expected to appear at Springs Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

“That is why we arrested the partner. As we are talking, she is in the cells at KwaThema Police Station. On Monday, both of them will be appearing in Springs Court for the murder case,” Mkhwanazi added.

Constable Sikhosana was a respected and committed officer who had served with distinction. His tragic death has left his colleagues, family, and community reeling, as they come to terms with the betrayal that led to his murder.

Police urge anyone with information on the second suspect to come forward, as justice is sought for a man who dedicated his life to protecting others—only to be betrayed by someone he trusted the most.
