A devastating auto crash on the Okene-Lokoja highway in Kogi State has left 19 people dead, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, April 28, 2024, involved two vehicles—a truck and a Toyota Hiace bus originating from Kano State.

Reports from the FRSC indicate that the collision between the two vehicles led to a fiery inferno, resulting in the tragic loss of 19 lives. The victims, all male, were unable to escape the flames, which engulfed the scene of the accident.

Despite the valiant efforts of emergency rescue teams, the fire raged for over three hours, making rescue operations challenging. Out of the 22 individuals involved in the crash, only one survived with injuries, while two others were fortunate to escape unharmed.

The bodies of the deceased have been transported to Okene General Hospital, as investigations into the cause of the accident continue. The community mourns the loss of lives and awaits further updates from the authorities regarding this tragic incident.
